About Dharamshala for road travellers

Dharamshala is really two towns: lower Dharamshala at around 1,380 m and upper Dharamshala, including McLeod Ganj, at around 1,830 m, with a steep road between them. Most visitors stay up in McLeod Ganj for the Tsuglagkhang temple complex, Tibetan culture and the cafés, and walk to Bhagsu and Dharamkot. The Kangra valley below holds Norbulingka's arts institute, Kangra's fort, and the road east towards Palampur's tea gardens and Bir's paragliding. It's one of the wettest places in India during the monsoon.
