Overview

Chandigarh Airport is the practical gateway for Manali for most travellers: around 310 km and 7–9 hours, with far more flights than Kullu's small Bhuntar airport. Timing is everything on this route. A morning arrival lets you clear the Mandi–Kullu gorge in daylight and reach Manali for dinner. If you land after about 2 pm, we will usually suggest a night in Chandigarh or a halt in Mandi rather than driving the river gorge in the dark. Your driver meets you at arrivals and takes the bypass straight onto the four-lane highway, skipping city traffic.

  • 2Phone signal drops in the long tunnels beyond Mandi; send your ETA to your hotel before you set off.
  • 3Kullu (Bhuntar) airport is only about 50 km from Manali but has few flights that are often weather-affected; Chandigarh is the reliable fallback.

Here's what each part of the year is really like on the road, and how it affects a trip with a driver.

Adding the Himalayas to a Golden Triangle Trip

The Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is India's classic first trip, and the Himalayan foothills of Himachal are the perfect contrast to it: cool air, pine forest and mountain towns after the heat and crowds of the plains. The question is how to connect them without wasting days. Here's how the pieces fit, with honest drive times.

Bir Billing Paragliding Trip Guide: Season, Getting There and Planning

Bir Billing in the Kangra valley is India's best-known paragliding site. Pilots launch from Billing, a grassy ridge at about 2,400 m, and land in fields at Bir, roughly 1,100 m lower. Most visitors come for a tandem flight with a registered pilot, then stay on for the monasteries, cafés and walks. This guide covers when you can fly, how to plan around the weather, and the quickest ways to reach Bir by road or air.

Chandigarh to Shimla Taxi Cost: What You Should Really Pay

Chandigarh to Shimla is only about 115 km, yet one-way taxi quotes vary from under ₹2,000 to nearly ₹6,000, sometimes from the same company. The difference is almost never the car: it's how the fare is built and what's left out. Here's how to read a quote, and what an all-inclusive price should look like.
