Overview
Dharamshala to Manali is about 235 km, usually 6 to 7½ hours by taxi east through Palampur and Baijnath, over the hills to Mandi, then up the Kullu valley. It's the classic second leg of a Himachal trip, linking the Tibetan culture of McLeod Ganj with the snow and adventure of Manali. With your own car you can break the day at Bir for a tandem paragliding flight or at Baijnath's stone temple. Starting early gets you through Kullu before evening traffic and into Manali in daylight.
