Hire a Car with a Private Driver in Himachal

Hiring a car with a driver is the easiest way to see Himachal. You don't deal with hairpin bends, snow chains or mountain parking, and you stop wherever you like. Whether you need one transfer, a sightseeing day or ten days across the state, here's how our private driver service works and what it costs.

What you get

Drivers are from vetted local operators. For trips within Himachal we prefer Himachal-registered vehicles, which avoids the state's entry tax for outside taxis.

  • A clean, insured vehicle matched to your group and luggage
  • A local driver experienced on Himachal's hill roads
  • The same driver for your whole trip on multi-day bookings
  • An all-inclusive written quote: fuel, tolls, state entry tax and the driver's allowances
  • A trip desk on WhatsApp throughout

How pricing works

Hill car hire is usually priced per kilometre with a daily minimum, commonly around 250 km a day, plus a night allowance for the driver on multi-day trips. We roll all of that into one written price per vehicle, not per person. Hotels and entry tickets are separate, and you choose your own stays.

For example, our sample all-inclusive price for a 5-day Shimla & Manali tour from Chandigarh in an Innova Crysta is shown on the tour page; your confirmed quote depends on dates and availability.

Choosing your vehicle

Bags are practical capacity, not brochure numbers. If in doubt, size up: hill drives are long.

Driving hours and safety

Our drivers avoid long stretches of night driving on hill roads, and very long days start early so the climbs happen in daylight. On multi-day trips, the driver needs proper rest between long days, which is one reason we suggest splitting 12-hour drives. Tell us about motion sickness or mobility needs, and we'll plan routes and stops around them.

How to book

Send your dates, route and group size using the form. You'll get a written, all-inclusive quote on WhatsApp within 15 minutes during support hours (07:00–23:00 IST), and you confirm with a small advance. Driver details arrive before pickup.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hire a driver for just one day of sightseeing?+

Yes. Local sightseeing days around Shimla, Manali or Dharamshala are quoted as a fixed day price.

Who pays for the driver's food and stay on multi-day trips?+

It's included in our price as the driver's allowance; you don't pay it separately.

Can we change the plan during the trip?+

Usually, yes. Small changes are fine; bigger detours are quoted before you go so the price stays clear.

Do drivers speak English?+

Many do, at least conversationally. If you need a fluent English-speaking driver, tell us when booking and we'll confirm availability.

Is a private driver more expensive than self-drive?+

Self-drive rentals look cheaper, but in the hills you also pay for fuel, tolls, entry tax and parking yourself, and you carry the stress of mountain driving. Many travellers find a driver costs only a little more and makes the trip far more relaxed.
