How We Work

Mountain trips go wrong when information is vague and prices hide extras. This page explains how we research every route, which checks a driver must pass before working with us, and exactly how our prices are built.

How we research route information

  • Distances and drive times are cross-checked against at least two public sources, and marked approximate until our routing check confirms them. Where sources disagree, we say so and use the realistic hill-road figure rather than the fastest online estimate.
  • Altitudes come from published references (such as each town's Wikipedia entry) and are shown as approximate.
  • Rules that change, such as Himachal's entry tax or the Rohtang Pass permit, are taken from news reports of official notifications, with links, and come with a reminder to check the current rules.
  • Each page shows the date its facts were last checked. We review every page at least every six months, and immediately when a rule changes.
  • Local detail, such as drop-point restrictions, bottlenecks and departure times, is added from driver interviews. Pages that include it show who reviewed them.

Some drafts are prepared with AI assistance from these researched facts. A person checks every page before it's published, and nothing is published from general knowledge alone.

How we vet operators and drivers

Before a taxi operator can take our bookings, we check:

  • Commercial vehicle registration, permit and fitness certificate
  • Valid commercial insurance
  • Driver's licence (with commercial badge where required) and police verification
  • Photos of the actual vehicles, which we use instead of stock images
  • Hill-driving experience on the routes they'll cover

Documents with expiry dates are tracked, and an operator is paused automatically if one lapses. After every trip we ask for feedback on punctuality, vehicle condition and driving, and operators who fall below our standard stop receiving bookings. Route pages only go live in search once a verified operator covers them.

How our prices are built

Outstation taxis in India are priced per kilometre with a daily minimum, because the car and driver are committed for the day and usually return empty. Our formula is simple and the same for everyone:

  • Trips from the plains into the hills: the larger of the distance and 250 km per day, the market standard for one-way outstation taxis
  • Short trips inside Himachal (up to 125 km): local per-km rates, never more than the outstation price, with a minimum fare per vehicle
  • Sightseeing trips run by local taxi unions, such as Rohtang or Kufri: the local market fare, with permit fees included
  • A per-km rate by vehicle (from the hatchback up to the Mini Coach (26-seater))
  • Plus, for multi-day trips, the driver's night allowance
  • Fuel, tolls and Himachal entry tax are included in that total, not added later

The starting from prices on each page come from this formula. Your exact price is confirmed in writing on WhatsApp before you book, and it can change with dates, vehicle model and extra stops. Parking at sightseeing stops you choose, and detours you add on the day, are the only usual extras, and we quote detours before you go. See our taxi cost explainer for a worked example.

Reviews

We only show reviews from customers whose trip was booked and completed through us, linked to that booking. We don't buy, invent or filter reviews to show only good ones.
