About Kufri for road travellers
Kufri is a small resort on the old Hindustan–Tibet road (NH5), about 12–16 km from Shimla and roughly 2,600–2,700 m up, which makes it the most reliable snow point near Shimla in winter. It's busy rather than scenic in the town itself: the draws are the horse and mule rides up to Mahasu Peak through deodar forest, the Himalayan Nature Park near the market, and fun parks. Weekends and snowy days bring heavy traffic through Dhalli, so early starts pay off. Kufri also works as the first stop on day trips to Chail, Narkanda, Mashobra and Naldehra.
