Kasauli Weather by Season, Snowfall and the Best Time to Visit

At about 1,800 m, Kasauli is lower and milder than Shimla, but it's still a proper hill town: cool summer nights, a misty monsoon and cold winters with the occasional dusting of snow. Because it's so close to Chandigarh, the contrast with the heat of the plains is what draws many visitors. This guide explains the seasons and the best time for each kind of trip. It's part of our Kasauli travel guide.

Does it snow in Kasauli?

Sometimes, but not every year. When a strong winter storm comes through, usually in January or February, Kasauli can get a light covering of snow, and the pines and the church look beautiful. It rarely lasts long. For more reliable snow, head on to Shimla's Kufri or Narkanda, or to Manali. Roads to Kasauli usually stay open in winter, though the last stretch can be icy early in the morning.

Kasauli Travel Guide: Getting There, Sights, Season and Stays

Kasauli is a small, quiet cantonment town in Himachal's Solan district, set on a ridge at about 1,800 m among pine and oak forest, just 58 km from Chandigarh. Founded by the British in 1842, it has kept its colonial calm: a stone church, a short Mall, old bungalows and long walks with views over the plains on one side and the hills on the other. It's the easiest hill escape from Chandigarh and a popular weekend from Delhi.
