Kangra is the old capital of the valley it gives its name to, at about 733 m, with a ruined fort on a cliff above two rivers and the Brajeshwari Devi temple in the old town. For most visitors it's also the airport town: Kangra (Gaggal) airport is about 8 km away, with Dharamshala around 13 km and McLeod Ganj about 18 km beyond it. It's worth a few hours on the way in or out, especially for the fort and, further out, the rock-cut temples at Masroor.
