Visiting on a non-match day

When there's no match or event, the stadium usually lets visitors in during the day to walk around the stands and photograph the ground against the mountains. Sources disagree on the details: the district's tourism page lists roughly 9:30 am to 5 pm and a fee of about ₹30, while others say entry is free or give longer hours. Access can also close for maintenance, practice sessions or security, so check at the gate.

Morning light is best for photos of the Dhauladhar behind the pavilion, before afternoon cloud builds over the peaks.

Going to a match

Tickets are sold through the official ticketing partner for each series or the IPL, not at the gate on match day. Hotels across Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj fill early and prices rise, so book as soon as fixtures are announced.

On match days the police set traffic plans and parking restrictions around the stadium. Expect to be dropped some distance away and to walk. A taxi with a local driver, who knows the drop-off points and can collect you after the match, is much easier than driving yourself. For an evening match, plan your return to McLeod Ganj in advance, as roads up the hill jam after the game.

Nearby

  • The War Memorial: a memorial to Himachal's soldiers in a pine park a short walk away.
  • The Museum of Kangra Art, in lower Dharamshala.
  • The Dharamshala Skyway ropeway to McLeod Ganj.
  • Kunal Pathri temple, a short drive into the hills.

Getting there

The stadium is in lower Dharamshala, about 9 km below McLeod Ganj and roughly 15 km from Kangra airport at Gaggal. From McLeod Ganj, take a taxi, a local bus, or the Skyway and then a short taxi ride. Our Kangra airport and McLeod Ganj transfers can drop you at the stadium.

Combining the stadium with a day in Dharamshala

A stadium visit fits easily into a half day in the lower town. Start at the War Memorial, walk to the stadium, then visit the Museum of Kangra Art before taking the Skyway up to McLeod Ganj for the afternoon. If you're in town for a match, consider arriving a day early to see McLeod Ganj before the crowds.
