Overview

Kasol to Delhi is roughly 510–530 km, usually 11 to 13 hours by taxi: down the Parvati valley to Bhuntar, south along the Kiratpur–Manali highway through the Aut tunnel, Mandi and Bilaspur, then onto the NH44 for the last run into Delhi. It's the end of the trip for most Kasol visitors, and a private taxi is the easiest way home with luggage, especially after a few days of treks to Kheerganga, Tosh or Malana. With an early start, you're in Delhi by evening. We pick you up from your Kasol guesthouse or the nearest road point, and drop you anywhere in Delhi NCR, at the airport or at a station.

Driving tips for this route

  • 1Leave Kasol by 5–6 am to reach Delhi by early evening; the hill section is the slowest part.
  • 2Flying out of Delhi the same day? Allow a buffer of three hours or more; monsoon slides and traffic near Delhi are hard to predict.
  • 3The Parvati valley road to Bhuntar is narrow and winding; it takes about an hour.
  • 4Winter fog on the NH44 near Delhi (December–January) can slow the final stretch.
  • 5Pickups from Tosh, Chalal or Manikaran can be arranged; tell us the nearest road point.

Planning the trip home

The return from Kasol is long, so timing matters. The most comfortable plan is an early start with breakfast in Mandi and lunch near Bilaspur, reaching Delhi in the early evening. If you have a flight or train the same evening, tell us the time when you book; we'll suggest a pickup with enough buffer for the hill section and Delhi's traffic.

If you'd rather not do it in one day, a night in Chandigarh or Mandi splits the drive neatly.

After a trek: Kheerganga, Tosh and Malana

Many travellers finish a Parvati valley trip with a trek, coming down to Barshaini after Kheerganga, or to Jari after Malana. We can pick you up at the trailhead instead of Kasol, which saves a local taxi and a transfer. Share the trek, the expected finish time and a phone number, and the driver will wait at the road head.

  • Kheerganga: pickup at Barshaini
  • Tosh: pickup at Tosh or Barshaini
  • Malana: pickup at Jari or the Malana road head

Where in Delhi we can drop you

We drop anywhere in Delhi NCR: homes in Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad or Faridabad, hotels in central Delhi, all terminals at Delhi airport, and New Delhi, Old Delhi, Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar stations. For an airport drop, give us your terminal and flight time, and we'll aim to arrive with plenty of time for check-in.

Taxi or overnight bus?

Overnight Volvo buses from Bhuntar or Kasol to Delhi are cheaper per person. A taxi makes sense for families, groups of four or more, travellers with heavy bags, or anyone catching a flight, because it leaves on your schedule and doesn't need a change at Bhuntar. It also lets you stop at Mandi, Bilaspur or Murthal along the way.

With luggage, kids or older passengers

The Parvati valley road is narrow, and the first hour is slow, so families often prefer an SUV or Innova Crysta for the extra space and comfort. Ask the driver for a proper breakfast stop in Mandi and a longer lunch near Bilaspur; the extra time makes the day far easier. Pack a small bag with water, snacks and a warm layer within reach, so you don't have to open the boot at every stop.

Weather & road conditions

March–June and September–November: dry roads and easy driving.
July–August: slides in the Parvati valley and the Mandi–Kullu gorge can close roads for hours; travel early and keep a buffer day before flights.
December–February: cold mornings in Kasol and fog near Delhi.

Pickup options

  • • Kasol guesthouses (nearest road point)
  • • Chalal, Manikaran and Tosh
  • • Jari and Barshaini (trek ends)

Other ways to travel

Overnight Volvo buses run from Bhuntar and Kasol to Delhi. Kullu–Manali airport at Bhuntar has limited flights to Delhi, often affected by weather.

Can Foreigners Drive in India? Self-Drive vs Hiring a Driver
