Overview

Shimla to Delhi is about 340–360 km, normally 7 to 9 hours by taxi via the NH5 to Zirakpur and then the NH44 through Ambala and Panipat. It's the usual way back to Delhi after a Shimla trip: three hours of hill road down to the plains, then a fast but busy highway. Leave in the morning to reach Delhi before the evening rush; for a flight the same day, pick one in the late evening. Drops anywhere in Delhi NCR, the airport or a railway station are fine.
