Overview
Delhi to Jwalamukhi is roughly 410–430 km by road, usually 9 to 11 hours by taxi via the NH44, Ropar and Una into Kangra district. Jwalamukhi's temple, at about 610 m, is one of the most important Shakti Peeths in Himachal: instead of an idol, pilgrims worship natural flames burning from the rock inside the sanctum. The route passes close to Chintpurni, about 35 km before Jwalamukhi, so most Delhi families visit both. It's a long drive, so plan an early start or an overnight on the way. We pick you up anywhere in Delhi NCR and the driver waits during darshan.

Jwalamukhi timings and darshan
The Kangra temples administration lists summer hours of about 6 am to 10 pm and winter hours of about 7 am to 9:30 pm, with a short midday closure and morning and evening aarti. The queue files past the flames in the sanctum, guided by the priests, and moves quickly on most weekdays. Festival hours differ, so we confirm them for your date.
Flying back after the yatra
Driving both ways means two long days on the road. Kangra airport at Gaggal is close to Jwalamukhi and has flights to Delhi when weather allows, so many families drive up, complete the temples, and fly back, or the reverse. Tell us your plan and we'll book the drive one way, with a drop at the airport at the end.
If you're continuing to Dharamshala or McLeod Ganj, it's about 50–56 km from Jwalamukhi, roughly 1¼ to 1½ hours.
- Delhi to Jwalamukhi: about 9–11 hours.
- Jwalamukhi to Dharamshala: about 1¼–1½ hours.
- Jwalamukhi to Chintpurni: about an hour.
A three-day plan from Delhi
Here's a comfortable way to do Jwalamukhi and the nearby Devi temples from Delhi with one car and driver, without any single day being too long. Each day's timing is approximate and depends on traffic, weather and crowds.
If you're short on time, drop day three and fly back from Kangra airport after Jwalamukhi instead; it's close to the temple.
- Day 1: Delhi to Chintpurni (about 8–10 hours), evening at the temple or rest.
- Day 2: early darshan at Chintpurni, then Jwalamukhi (about an hour away) before midday; overnight in Jwalamukhi or Kangra.
- Day 3: Brajeshwari Devi in Kangra and Chamunda Devi, then Dharamshala, or a drop at Kangra airport for a flight to Delhi.
Where to stay near Jwalamukhi
Jwalamukhi town has guesthouses and hotels within walking distance of the temple, handy for the evening aarti or an early-morning visit. Kangra, a short drive away, has more choice and puts you close to Brajeshwari Devi for the next morning. If you'd like more comfort and cooler weather after the long drive, Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj are about an hour and a half away, with a wide range of hotels and the Dalai Lama's temple to visit.
