Overview
Kullu to Kasol is about 40 km: roughly 10 km south to Bhuntar, then about 30 km up the narrow Parvati valley road via Jari, usually 1½ hours by taxi. Kasol is the riverside village that's become the base for the Parvati valley: Manikaran's gurudwara and hot springs a few kilometres on, and the Kheerganga, Tosh and Kalga trails above. The valley road is slow and winding, so the drive takes longer than the distance suggests. We pick you up anywhere in Kullu and drop you at your Kasol stay, or further up the valley if you're starting a trek.

Kasol, Manikaran and the treks above
Kasol itself is a small village of cafés and guesthouses along the river. Manikaran, a few kilometres further up, has a large gurudwara and hot springs, and is worth a visit even if you're not staying there. The road continues to Barshaini, the road head for Kheerganga, Tosh and Kalga, where many travellers start a one- or two-day walk.
If you're arriving at Bhuntar airport rather than Kullu town, you're already at the start of the valley road, and the drive to Kasol is about 31 km.
Moving on from Kasol
From Kasol, Manali is about 75 km, around 2½ to 3 hours, and Jibhi about 3 hours via Bhuntar and Aut. Many travellers combine Kasol with one of these rather than returning to Kullu. Tell us your next stop, and we'll plan the trip as a chain with the same driver if you like.
- Kasol to Manali: about 75 km.
- Kasol to Bhuntar airport: about 31 km.
- Kasol to Chandigarh: about 7–9 hours.
Where to stay in the Parvati valley
Kasol is the busiest base, with most of the cafés, guesthouses and shops. Chalal, a short walk across the river, is quieter and reached only on foot. Manikaran, a few kilometres up the road, has the gurudwara and hot springs and simple hotels. Further up, Tosh and Kalga near the end of the road are popular with travellers who want to be close to the trails, though some stays there need a walk from the road.
Tell us which you've booked, and we'll take you as far as a car can go.
What the valley road is like
The Parvati valley road is a narrow, winding road that follows the river through pine forest and small villages, with passing places rather than two clear lanes for much of its length. Buses and trucks use it too, so the pace is steady rather than fast. It's well used and safe in normal weather, but in heavy rain small slides can block it for a few hours, which is why we check before leaving in the monsoon.
