Things to do in and around Kasol
- Walk to Chalal: a short forest walk across the river to a quiet village with guesthouses.
- Café hopping: riverside cafés with Israeli, Italian and Indian food.
- Manikaran (about 4 km): hot springs, the gurdwara and temples.
- Tosh: a village near the head of the road, with snow-peak views.
- Kheerganga: a trek from Barshaini to a high meadow with a hot spring.
- Grahan and Rasol: day hikes to remote villages above the valley.
- Malana: a traditional village with its own strict customs; visitors must not touch walls, temples or people.
When to go
March to June and September to November are best, with pleasant days and open trails. Kasol is busy in May and June, and around long weekends and New Year. The monsoon, July to August, brings heavy rain and landslide risk on the valley road; the Parvati river can flood. Winters are cold; Kasol itself gets only occasional light snow, while Tosh and higher villages are often snowy.
Where to stay
Stays range from hostels and simple guesthouses to riverside cottages and camps. Kasol village is lively; Chalal, across the river, and the road towards Manikaran are quieter. Many travellers spend a night or two in Kasol and another in Tosh or Kheerganga. Check that riverside stays are well above the water, as the Parvati rises fast in heavy rain.
Practical tips
Our Parvati valley package covers Kasol, Manikaran, Tosh and Kheerganga with stays and a car.

- Carry cash: ATMs are limited and sometimes run dry.
- Respect local customs, especially in Malana and at Manikaran.
- Kasol is a place for slow travel; two to three days is ideal.
- Local laws on drugs are strictly enforced; stay well away from them.
A sample three-day plan
Day 1: arrive in Kasol, walk to Chalal and spend the evening in a riverside café. Day 2: visit Manikaran in the morning, then drive up the valley to Barshaini and continue to Tosh for the views, returning to Kasol for the night. Day 3: a day hike to Grahan village, or begin the Kheerganga trek and stay a night at the top if permitted, returning the next day. A car with a driver makes the Manikaran and Tosh day easy.
