Overview
Chandigarh to Chintpurni is about 190–200 km, usually 4½ to 5½ hours by taxi via Ropar, Nangal and Una, with the final stretch climbing the hills of Una district to the temple at about 978 m. Mata Shri Chintpurni is one of the most visited Shakti Peeths in north India, and one of the busiest temples in Himachal on Sundays and through the Navratris. Private vehicles usually stop at the bus stand, about 1.5 km below the temple, so the last part is on foot through the market. We pick you up anywhere in the Tricity, wait while you have darshan, and can continue to Jwalamukhi about 35 km away.

Driving tips for this route
- 1Leave Chandigarh by 6 am to reach before the late-morning rush, especially on Sundays and festival days.
- 2Vehicles usually stop at the Chintpurni bus stand area; allow 20–30 minutes each way for the walk up through the bazaar.
- 3The Una–Bharwain section is a hill road with bends; anyone prone to motion sickness should sit in front.
- 4During Navratri the local police often divert traffic; your driver knows the alternative parking areas.
- 5If you're doing the full Devi darshan, plan an overnight near Chintpurni or Jwalamukhi rather than driving back the same day.

Darshan at Chintpurni: timings and queues
Published timings vary by source and season. One temple guide lists roughly 4 am to 10 pm in summer and about 5:30 am to 9:30 pm in winter, with the morning aarti around 6 am and the evening aarti around 8 pm. Hours are extended during the Navratris. We confirm the day's timings before you set off.
Sundays, Tuesdays and festival days are the busiest. A weekday visit in the morning usually means a much shorter queue, and you can be back on the road towards Jwalamukhi or Chandigarh by lunchtime.
- Shoe stands and cloakrooms are near the temple entrance.
- Prasad and offerings are sold in the bazaar on the walk up.
- Wheelchair users should tell us in advance so we can plan the closest drop point.
Combining Chintpurni with Jwalamukhi and Naina Devi
Chintpurni sits in the middle of Himachal's Devi circuit. Jwalamukhi is about 33–35 km away, roughly an hour by road, and Naina Devi about 110–115 km back towards Punjab. A two- or three-day trip from Chandigarh comfortably covers Naina Devi, Chintpurni, Jwalamukhi, Brajeshwari Devi in Kangra and Chamunda Devi near Dharamshala.
With one car and driver for the whole yatra, you don't have to arrange transport at each temple. The driver waits, helps with parking and drop points, and keeps to a pace that suits elderly family members.
From the car to the temple
On most days the driver drops you as close as traffic rules allow, usually around the Chintpurni bus stand. From there a lane lined with prasad, flower and bangle shops climbs gently for about 1.5 km to the temple gate. It's a steady walk rather than a steep climb, and there are tea stalls and benches on the way.
If anyone in your group can't walk that far, tell us when you book. We'll plan the nearest permitted drop point, and on quieter days the driver can sometimes wait closer to the temple. Keep valuables to a minimum and leave large bags in the car; the driver stays with the vehicle throughout.
After darshan, most families eat in the bazaar before heading back. If you're returning to Chandigarh the same day, aim to leave Chintpurni by 2 pm so the hill section is behind you before dark.
