Overview
Manali to Solang Valley is only about 13–14 km, usually 30 to 45 minutes by taxi, which makes it the easiest snow and adventure trip from Manali. Solang is a wide meadow at about 2,560 m, with a ropeway and ski slopes above it: paragliding, ATV rides and zorbing in the warmer months, and snow play and skiing in winter. Because it's so close, most people do it as a half-day trip, or combine it with the Atal Tunnel and Sissu. We pick you up from your Manali hotel, wait while you enjoy the valley, and bring you back.

What to do at Solang by season
Solang changes completely through the year. In winter it's Manali's main snow playground: sledges, snow scooters and skiing on the lower slopes, with ski lessons available from local operators when there's enough snow. From spring to autumn the snow retreats and the meadow fills with paragliding, ATV circuits, zorbing, horse rides and zip lines.
The ropeway generally runs from about 9 am to 5 pm, weather permitting, and climbs to an upper station at around 3,200 m with wide views. It can stop for high winds, heavy snow or maintenance, so check on the day.
- Paragliding is weather-dependent; morning flights are usually calmer.
- Snow gear can be hired near the parking area.
- Prices for activities vary; agree them before you start.
Planning a half day or a full day
A half day is enough for the meadow and a short activity: leave Manali at 9 am and be back by early afternoon. For a full day, continue from Solang through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu, which adds roughly two to three hours and gives you a second, quieter snow point beyond the tunnel.
If you're also planning Rohtang, keep Solang for a different day. Rohtang needs a very early start and most of the day, and doing both in one day is rushed.
Getting to Solang in the snow season
After a fresh snowfall, the road from Palchan to Solang can be slippery, and police sometimes stop vehicles a few kilometres short of the meadow until it's cleared. When that happens, the last part is a walk or a ride in a local vehicle, and the driver waits at the stopping point.
Snow chains and four-wheel drive help on the worst days, and your driver will know the latest state of the road from the morning's traffic. If the road is closed for the day, the riverside near Palchan and the lower slopes often still have snow for children to play in, and we can try Solang again the next morning.
