Chandigarh to Manali

We collect you from Chandigarh airport, station or hotel for the drive through Bilaspur, Sundernagar and Mandi into the Kullu valley. The last two hours follow the Beas through apple orchards and pine forest. Check in by evening and settle in; dinner is at the hotel.

Solang valley and the Atal Tunnel
About 70 kmOvernight: Manali
After breakfast, drive up to Solang, where the ropeway lifts you above the valley and paragliding is possible on clear days. Continue through the Atal Tunnel to the Chandra valley for snow views on the Lahaul side, and come back via the Vashisht hot springs as the light fades.

Hadimba temple and Old Manali

A slow morning, then a walk through the deodar forest to the Hadimba temple, built in the mid-sixteenth century. Wander up into Old Manali for coffee and lunch in a garden café, and spend the evening on Mall Road or by the river.

Naggar and the left bank of the Beas
About 50 kmOvernight: Manali
Drive down the quieter road on the left bank of the Beas to Naggar castle, once the seat of the Kullu kings, and the Roerich gallery with its Himalayan paintings. Have lunch at Jana or Naggar before returning to Manali.

Manali to Chandigarh
About 305 km
Breakfast with a last view of the mountains, then the drive back down to Chandigarh. We time the departure to your train or flight and stop for lunch on the way.

Why this plan suits couples
Honeymoon trips go wrong when every day starts at 7 am. Here only the Solang day needs an early start, to beat the queues; the other days begin after a late breakfast and end by early evening. Staying in one hotel for four nights means no packing and unpacking.
Manali also has more choice of romantic places to stay than anywhere else in Himachal, from riverside cottages near Aleo to boutique hotels on the slopes above Old Manali.
Snow or no snow
If snow matters to you, come between late December and early March, when Solang and the area around the tunnel are usually white. Outside those months, snow is often still visible beyond the tunnel in Lahaul, and the peaks above Manali stay white well into spring.
We keep the Solang day flexible, so it can move to the day with the best forecast.
Small upgrades worth making
Choose the comfort tier if your budget allows: the difference shows most in Manali, where the best rooms have balconies over the valley and fireplaces in winter. Ask for a room on a higher floor, away from the road, and say you're on honeymoon when you check in; many hotels offer a small welcome.
