Overview
Five of the most revered goddess temples in north India lie within a day's drive of each other in Himachal: Naina Devi on its hilltop above the Gobind Sagar lake, Chintpurni in the Una hills, Jwalamukhi with its eternal flames, Brajeshwari in Kangra town and Chamunda by the Baner river near Dharamshala. This five-day yatra visits them all at a calm pace, with hotels close to the temples, so elderly family members can rest between darshans. The car and driver stay with you throughout, and the driver knows where to park and how the queues work.

The Shakti temples of Himachal
According to tradition, these temples mark places where parts of the goddess Sati fell to earth, making them Shakti Peeths or important goddess shrines. Pilgrims from Punjab, Haryana and Delhi visit them throughout the year, especially during Navratri.
Darshan without stress
We plan visits for early mornings and late afternoons, when queues are shortest, and stay close to the temples so you can rest in between. Your driver will suggest where to buy prasad and offerings and how to deposit shoes and bags.
Who this suits
This yatra suits families with elderly parents, pilgrim groups of up to six, and anyone wanting a spiritual break in the hills without long mountain drives.
The temples one by one
Naina Devi sits on a hilltop in Bilaspur district at about 1,200 m, reached by road, steps or ropeway, with views over the Gobind Sagar reservoir. Chintpurni, in Una district, is dedicated to Chhinnamastika, a form of the goddess shown holding her own severed head, a symbol of self-sacrifice. Jwalamukhi has no idol: worship centres on blue flames that burn from cracks in the rock.
Brajeshwari Devi, in the heart of Kangra town, was famous for its wealth and was plundered several times in history, then rebuilt after the 1905 earthquake. Chamunda Devi sits beside the Baner river, with the snowy Dhauladhar behind, and has a cave shrine to Shiva near the main temple.
Offerings and timings
Most temples open before dawn and close for a short break in the afternoon. Prasad, chunris and coconuts are sold outside every shrine; you don't need to buy in advance. Photography is not allowed inside the sanctums.
