Overview
Pathankot to Chamba is roughly 100–120 km, usually 3½ to 4 hours by taxi: up the NH154A through Dunera to Banikhet, just below Dalhousie, then down into the Ravi valley to Chamba at about 1,000 m. Pathankot is the railhead for Chamba district, with trains from Delhi and Jammu, and the start of the hill road. Chamba is an old princely capital, known for its stone Lakshmi Narayan temples, the long open Chaugan and the Bhuri Singh Museum, and it's the gateway to Bharmour and the higher valleys. We pick you up at Pathankot or Chakki Bank station, the bus stand or your hotel, and drop you in Chamba.

Things to do in Chamba
Chamba spreads along the Ravi, founded by the Varman kings. The Lakshmi Narayan temple complex, six stone shikhara temples with slate and wooden canopies, is its landmark. The Chaugan, a long open ground in the middle of town, hosts the Minjar fair each July–August. The Bhuri Singh Museum, opened in 1908, holds more than 8,000 objects, including Chamba miniature paintings and embroidered rumals. Chamunda Devi temple, on the hill above town, has views over the valley.

Via Dalhousie and Khajjiar
If you have the time, take the scenic route: up to Dalhousie, across to Khajjiar's meadow, and down to Chamba. It adds about two hours and turns the transfer into a day of sightseeing. Most travellers with a morning train arrival can do it comfortably and reach Chamba by late afternoon.
Gateway to Bharmour and Manimahesh
Chamba is the starting point for Bharmour, about 60–65 km up the Budhil valley, with its ancient Chaurasi temples, and for the Manimahesh yatra, which draws large numbers of pilgrims in August and September. During the yatra, roads beyond Chamba are crowded; book early and expect slower driving. We can take you from Pathankot straight through to Bharmour if you'd like.
Arriving by train
Pathankot has two stations: Pathankot Junction, for most trains from Delhi, and Chakki Bank, used by some trains to and from Jammu. Share your train number and coach, and the driver will meet you at the right station. If your train is late, we track it and wait.
After an overnight train
Most trains from Delhi reach Pathankot early in the morning after a night on board, so a comfortable plan matters. The driver meets you on the platform or at the station exit, helps with luggage, and can stop for breakfast in Pathankot or at a dhaba on the way up. If you'd like to freshen up first, there are hotels near the station that rent rooms for a few hours.
The first hour climbs steadily through Dunera into the hills; after Banikhet, it's a long descent into the Ravi valley. With an early start, you'll reach Chamba by late morning and have the afternoon for the temples and the Chaugan. If you're going straight on to Bharmour, a late breakfast in Chamba breaks the day well.
