Best places in and around Manali for couples
- Hadimba temple and the Dhungri forest: a quiet morning walk among giant deodars, magical after snowfall.
- Old Manali: café terraces, village lanes and evening music.
- Vashisht: the hot spring baths and views across the valley.
- Solang valley: snow play in winter, the ropeway and a tandem paragliding flight together in season.
- The Atal Tunnel and Sissu: a drive into a white, high valley, with the frozen waterfall in winter.
- Naggar: the old castle, the Roerich gallery and quiet walks above the left bank of the Beas.
- Rohtang Pass (May to November): snowfields at almost 4,000 m, if a permit comes through.
- Kasol and the Parvati valley: riverside cafés and pine forest, a day trip or an overnight stay.
Best time for a Manali honeymoon
For snow, go between late December and February. Mid-January to mid-February is the most reliable, and it's quieter than the Christmas and New Year week, which is very crowded and expensive. Expect sub-zero nights, and plan a spare day in case snow closes a road.
For pleasant weather and greenery, March to April and September to October are lovely: mild days, clear skies, blossom in spring and apples in autumn, with fewer crowds than summer. May and June are busy with families, and July and August bring monsoon rain and road disruption.
A relaxed 5-day honeymoon plan
Add a night in Kasol or Naggar if you have a week, or combine with Shimla: two nights there and three in Manali. Our honeymoon packages follow this pace.
- Day 1: arrive and rest. Evening walk on Mall Road and dinner.
- Day 2: Hadimba temple early, Old Manali for lunch, Vashisht hot springs in the afternoon.
- Day 3: Solang valley, then the Atal Tunnel and Sissu. Leave early in winter.
- Day 4: Naggar castle and the left bank, or Rohtang if it's open and permitted. Quiet evening.
- Day 5: a slow morning, café brunch, shopping for Kullu shawls, then depart.
Where couples like to stay
Couples often choose cottages and boutique stays in Old Manali, the Log Huts and Hadimba area, or riverside resorts along the left bank towards Naggar and Prini, for views and quiet. Mall Road hotels are convenient but busier. In winter, make sure the room has proper heating and reliable hot water. Our where-to-stay guide compares the areas.
Budget and booking tips
Our Manali trip cost guide gives sample budgets, and our package pages show a per-person price with hotels and car included.
- Book hotels and the car early for December to February and May to June.
- A private taxi for the whole trip, from Delhi or Chandigarh and back, avoids juggling buses and local cabs.
- Ask for honeymoon touches (decorated room, a candlelit dinner) directly with the hotel; many offer them.
- Keep one evening free of plans; long mountain drives are tiring.
- Carry warm layers, sunglasses and good boots for snow days.
