Overview
Triund is a grassy ridge at about 2,850 m above McLeod Ganj, with the granite face of the Dhauladhar range on one side and the Kangra valley spread out on the other. It's the most popular short trek in Himachal and a fine first taste of the mountains. This package collects you from Kangra airport or Pathankot, spends a night in McLeod Ganj, then walks you up to Triund with a local guide for a night in camp, and brings you down the next day. Tents, sleeping bags and simple meals at the top are arranged through a local trekking operator.

Day by day
- Day1
Arrive in McLeod Ganj
About 90 kmOvernight: McLeod Ganj
Pickup from Kangra airport or Pathankot station and the drive up to McLeod Ganj. Meet your trek guide in the evening to check your gear, and have an early dinner around the main square.
- Day2
Trek to Triund
Local sightseeing, short drivesOvernight: Triund (camp)
Drive to the Galu Devi temple trailhead above Dharamkot and walk about 6–7 km through oak and rhododendron forest to Triund, a steady climb of four to five hours with a tea stop at the halfway café. Pitch camp on the ridge and watch the sunset light up the Dhauladhar.
- Day3
Down to McLeod Ganj and departure
About 90 km
Sunrise on the ridge, breakfast in camp and the walk down, about three hours. Your driver meets you at the trailhead for a quick lunch in McLeod Ganj and the drive to Kangra airport or Pathankot.
The walk
The trail starts at the Galu Devi temple above Dharamkot and climbs steadily through forest, with views opening up after the halfway point. The last section is a series of rocky switchbacks. At the top, the ridge is wide and grassy, and the Dhauladhar wall rises sharply in front of you.
Camping at the top
Camps on Triund are basic: two-person tents, sleeping bags and mats, a simple dinner and breakfast, and shared toilet tents. Nights are cold even in summer. The reward is the sky: on a clear night, the stars are spectacular, and sunrise on the peaks is unforgettable.
If you want to go further
From Triund, the trail continues to the Snowline café and on to Indrahar Pass at about 4,300 m, a much harder trek of three to four days. Ask us if you'd like to extend the trip with an experienced guide.
Fitness and safety
You don't need trekking experience for Triund, but you should be able to walk uphill for four to five hours with breaks. Start early to avoid the midday heat, take the climb slowly and drink regularly. The weather on the ridge changes quickly: if clouds build in the afternoon, thunderstorms can follow, so your guide may decide to stay lower or come down early. Lightning is a real risk on the open ridge; always follow the guide's call.
Mobile signal is patchy on the trail. Tell someone at your hotel your plans, and don't walk alone after dark.
Who this suits
Triund is a first Himalayan trek for many Indian and foreign travellers: students, friends' groups and fit families. If you'd rather not camp, the same walk works as a long day hike from McLeod Ganj, and we can turn the package into two nights in town.
