Overview
Rohtang Pass, at about 3,980 m above Manali, is the snow destination generations of Indian families have dreamed of. Since vehicle numbers were capped by the National Green Tribunal, getting there needs an online permit, which sells out fast in May and June. This five-day package applies for the permit for your date, takes you up to Rohtang and down the far side to Koksar and Sissu in Lahaul, returning through the Atal Tunnel to make a loop. Solang and Naggar fill the other days. If the permit isn't available, we switch to the tunnel route and refund the permit cost.

The Rohtang permit system
After the National Green Tribunal capped the number of vehicles going to Rohtang to reduce pollution and protect the glaciers, the Himachal government set up an online permit system. A limited number of petrol and diesel vehicles are allowed each day, and permits are released in time slots. We apply as soon as permits open for your date.
The loop via Koksar
Most visitors go up to Rohtang and come back the same way. With a permit, it's possible to continue down to Koksar and through Lahaul to Sissu, then return to Manali through the Atal Tunnel. This loop avoids the traffic coming up the pass in the afternoon.
Who this suits
Families and groups who specifically want Rohtang. If you're flexible, our standard Manali packages offer similar snow at Solang and beyond the tunnel without the permit lottery.
What to expect at the top
Even in June, Rohtang can be cold and windy, with snowfields beside the road and clouds that roll in fast. The area at the top has stalls selling tea and snacks, and hire shops below at Gulaba and Marhi rent snow gear. Plan to spend an hour or two at the pass; stay longer only if everyone feels well.
